Behind the scenes on Project IS0L8T3D: Fixing the "Swarm."
Originally, enemies just followed the player directly. The result? They bunched up or formed a straight line.
To fix this, added invisible "Markers" around the player. Enemies now hunt for an open marker rather than the player's centre point.
Though this solution certainly isn't new, and there are likely other simpler solutions out there, it is a favourite because it solves a messy problem simply.
It also keeps things flexible. we can easily mix up the marker arrangements later if the "perfect circle" feels too predictable.
